Thursday Thirteen #4

Thirteen People I Am Praying For

1. Karrie. She's a friend of my son and a sweet little girl. She has neuroblastoma and is currently cancer free, but between her 3rd and 4th birthdays, she was diagnosed, treated, operated on and recovered. What a trooper she has been and what an inspiration! She has scans again on St. Valentine's Day. Pray they'll be all clear.

2. Austin. He is my Uncle's step-son and is serving in the Middle East. Not sure if he's in Afghanistan or still in Iraq. Someone in his unit just lost his life and I'm sure it was awful when Austin's Mom answered the phone and it was the Army calling. They called to tell her that it was not Austin who had died in case she heard it on the news or something. I guess it was good that they called at all, but what a kick to the ticker that had to be.

3. Matt. Matt is the son of my Matthew's teacher. He is serving in the Army in Kosovo.

4. Kelli. Many prayers have been answered for Kelli and her family thanks in large part to Boomama. Click here for the details.

5. Three acquaintances of mine who are having hard times. The details are personal and I don't even know all of them, but I know they need some healing and prayers right now.

6. Emma Grace. I don't know her or her family, but you can read more about her here.

7. Ashley. Read about this little girl who needs some prayer warriors here.

8. Erna. For her daughters.

9. Shannon. She's been iced in since Friday in with 4 children. That right there will require praying and a bottle of something at least 60 proof! (Just kidding about the alcohol!) Go visit and see the great project they've come up with.

10. Maxine. Not the cartoon character, although she really looks like her, but this one is sooooo sweet! She's my Step-Grandma and she suffers from Alzheimer's.

11. My Home & Garden Party leader and her husband. He just lost his father and she has some health issues.

12. D.K. Raymer and her family as they deal with the loss of her Father-in-law and the bureaucrats who are making it difficult to provide for his widow.

13. Rachael C., a lady from a town nearby who was in a head-on accident with her 6 kids in the vehicle with her. I know she lost consciousness and regained it, but that's the only bit of info I know.

I know its only supposed to be 13, but there are 2 people from our church who are in need of prayers, too. Cathy has some health issues and Bruce has just lost his wife, Mary.

So as I go about my day, this is what is floating around in my head. I am grateful to be able to pray for these people and I am counting my many, many blessings. If you feel so inclined, please join me in lifting them up in prayer.

Thank you in advance!

Prayer changes things!

Thursday Thirteen #3!

Thirteen Books I Should Have Written

1. Don't Lick the Mailbox in January. This book would be filled to the brim with fabulous humor and life-lessons such as, "Keep your stinky gym socks to yourself" and "Merely wearing a cape does not, a super-hero, make."

2. Why We Love 80's Music. This idea was blatently stolen from me by VH1 (not really) and turned into the wildly popular We Are The (80's, 90's, etc.) series.

3. How NOT to Put a 4-Year Old to Bed. Read more about this here.

4. What Really Happened to Jimmy Hoffa? I have my own theory that involves a house painter and cement :::wink, wink:::!

5. Crafting With Heather. I love to make things whether its painting, crocheting, drawing or sewing.

6. The Dump Cook. Sounds kinda gross now that I see it in writing. Anyhoo... this book would be filled with reciped that had measurements like 'handful' and 'three shakes'. That's how I like to do it.

7. Control Your Kids, PLEASE! I never would have written this before I graduated high school, but now that I am an adult I may go for it. HOW in the world can people let their kids do some of the things they do? Then, all to often, they stand behind the kid! WHAT IS THAT ABOUT? If we did something wrong on the other side of town when we were little, you could bet your life that anyone who saw us would make us stop and holler at us. Then, when we got home, we'd get it twice as bad because our parents already knew. If my kids act up anywhere, I want to know about it and it will be dealt with for sure!

8. Do You Really Think You Look Good In That? I would fill this book with fashion tips such as, "If your earlobes are touching your shoulders, get a SMALLER pair of earrings!" Sheesh! WHAT are people thinking?

9. Don't Be Such A GIRL! I can't stand girls who are such sissies! Suck it up! Touching a worm, getting muddy and eating like you mean it are all things to relish. Life's too short to be such a wimp! You can still dress and be feminine without being a big sap.

10. How To Put Up Chirstmas Lights. Including chapters on 'why they won't stop blinking' and 'if you won't make the effort to reach the top of the tree, don't decorate the thing'.

Boy, after those last 4, I'm starting to sound bitter and grouchy. Really, I'm not.

11. Forts 101. Helpful tips for building forts in most any room of the house.

12. Cheap Floral Design. I have done flowers for several weddings (for family and friends as a gift) MUCH cheaper than you can get them anywhere else! It's not that hard and the prices the florists charge? Can you say RIP OFF?

13. If You Can't Be Happy, Be Content. Not everyone in the world can be happy all of the time, but at least be content with the good things in your life. Count your blessings for they are many.

Thursday Thirteen!

This is my first Thursday Thirteen post! I decided to skip the Nifty-Thrifty Thursday tip since I posted 2 tips for WFMW yesterday. Since Christmas is my favorite holiday and it's just around the corner, I thought I'd post 13 of my favorite things about Christmas.

(in no particular order)
1. Christmas Carols! Can you htink of a better way to express your love of something than singing about it?

2. Christmas Specials! Rankin and Bass did it up right and the "25 Days of Christmas" starts tomorrow night on ABC Family! WAHOO!

3. Decorations! I love to decorate the house up and I love to take the kids to see the Christmas lights. Sometimes I will take different routes to and from places to see what lights displays there are on other roads.

4. Christmas cards! I love getting mail that isn't bills and especially when it's a gorgeous Christmas card! This year, I am saving them to read at supper with the family. I also love to stamp my own cards to send out!

5. Christmas movies! These differ from the Christmas specials and deserve their own category! What is funnier than seeing Chevy Chase hanging from his downspouts or seeing Ralphie in his bunny suit? I also like the sappy ones and the mysterious ones. I like to watch as many as I can every year. I'll post my favorite Christmas movies later.

6. FOOD! I love making food and eating food and dreaming about food! That goes for anytime of the year, but I'm especially obsessed at Christmas. I can't wait to have a little bit of everything!!! YUMMY!

7. Watching the kids! I love to watch the kids get excited and see the looks on their faces when they open something they've been wanting. There's nothing like a kid at Christmas!

8. Church! I love to see the church decorated at Christmas time! There's something even more magical about mass when it's in a church filled with wreaths and poinsettas. The music is even more magical, the service is full of hopeful messages and everyone is smiling! Can't beat it!

9. Making gifts! I like to think I am rather crafty and I love to get out my craft supplies and paint, crochet, stamp and sew up whatever gifts I can! I also consider making baskets a craft since they surely look like a work of art when they're done. The kids love getting in on the action, too. They have made gifts for people every year since I can remember!

10. Family! I love to attend all of the family gatherings! We do a lot of rushing around, but that's one of my favorite things, too.

11. Hosting! I can never get enough of hosting parties any time of the year, but I would entertain every night during the holidays if I could!

12. Traditions! I love doing things with my family now that I did when I was a kid. I hope they will do them with their kids one day, too!

13. Snow on Christmas! Now, I don't want feet of snow, but a light dusting would be okay. It can snow a few days before Christmas to make a nice base, get the roads cleared and then add a little decorative snow for effect on Christmas day. That would work for me!

Well, there you go! That's not all of them, but that's a good start! I hope we can all focus on the joy of the season and remember what it's all about! Which reminds me... I need to set up my nativity!

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by!
