Alleluia! The Strife is O'er!!!

The situation with the coach is over. While he was at tryouts last night, he has heretofore been relieved of his coaching duties!

Coach Z is the head coach for tournaments and one of the league Commissioners. Due to an umpire cancelling at the last minute, he had to fill in and was unable to come to tryouts Monday night. Incidentally, when we were informed that Matthew had made the All-Star team, we were told that "practice is Monday night" not tryouts and I thought maybe that was part of the communication problem.

Coach Z was able to come last night and his wife came over and talked with me and a friend of mine who's son is also on the team. Mrs. Z said he got so many phone calls, plus the first hand account from her, that it prompted a meeting with the 3 Commissioners of our league. It was a unanimous decision to remove him.

I was also happy to hear that the Dad who had removed his son from tryouts called, apologized and allowed his son to return last night. However, there were a couple of kids who didn't return last night.

Wendy told us the reason they call it "practice" rather than "tryouts" is that that's how they run the tryouts every year: the coaches choose the kids for the teams, they hold 3 practices with all of those kids rotating the positions they were recommended for and they divide them into 2 teams for the tournament.

That is exactly how the night went last night, too. The kids all got to play the positions they are the best in, they all got to bat and they all had smiles on their faces. That's how it's supposed to be.

Let me add that the coach who ran the show Monday night was still there last night, but he kept quiet and let the head coach conduct the tryouts without incident. I hope he was paying attention and taking notes. :o)
