WFMW: Homemede Ice Packs

With the warmer weather upon us, it is inevitable that the kids are going to get more scrapes and bumps and stings. I was always using bags of ice for these things.

It's not a very comfortable thing for a little kid to have a bunch of square, lumpy ice cubes on their shin or forehead.

I saw a segment on TV one day that said to use 1 part rubbing alcohol to 1 part water in a zip-top bag to make ice packs that would be softer and flexible to wrap around arms, legs and the contours of little noggins.

I took it one step further and I use my vacuum sealer.

All you have to do is mix your alcohol and water, pour it in the bag and seal it. DO NOT vacuum it! Make sure you just seal the edge of the bag or you will have a ruined vacuum sealer and a big mess.

Stick it in the freezer and it will be at the ready the next time you have a bump or bruise to comfort.

Another tip is to make a couple of these... especially if you have really little ones around. I've found that when one of the older kids gets hurt, the little ones will "fake a hurt" to get a little of your attention, too. They'll love it if you have another ice pack just for them.

Great idea! You could make me up a few of these! Have youy ever heard of tapeing a penny over a bee sting? Hopefully I won't have the opportunity to try this out.
