How Do You Like Your News Reported?

Thanks to all of the participants in my poll: Do you have a secret stash of your favorite treat? last week. Here are the results:

Yes, and it's all mine.- 66%
Yes, but I share with someone.- 0%
Sometimes.- 33%
No.- 0%

This week, I have a different topic for you all to discuss. It is about the media and all of the advances we've made in technology.

In recent years, technology has grown by such leaps and bounds that we often hear about news as it is happening. That can be a good thing or a bad thing. I like hearing about certain news items immediately such as the attacks on the WTC, a vote on a hot local or national issue or the latest on a large storm or weather event.

The problem I have found is that in the heat of the moment, facts are not clear and the wrong information is often reported. The media then has to revisit the entire event and correct themselves and we have to adjust our entire perception of the occurrence. We then relive the event over and over in differing scenarios or with different outcomes often remembering the wrong information that we were reported in the first place.

It's as if the media outlets are so anxious to be "the first to report" something that they would rather risk their integrity by reporting something incorrect than report what is known and leave the details for a more comprehensive follow-up story.

So what do you think? How do you want your news reported? Answer the poll in the sidebar and feel free to discuss further in comments.
