How To Get Rid Of Junk Mail And More.

Mike got yet another life insurance quote in the mail this weekend. It came with the usual slew of other miscellaneous junk mail.

If you are an average American, you receive around 500 pieces of junk mail each year. Items range from ads for services to credit card and loan offers. This paper clutter not only ends up piling up on counter tops and table tops, but in landfills.

I found an interesting web page that I thought I'd pass on to all of you. It details how to stop unwanted junk mail, email and phone calls. I especially like this section of the page (emphasis is mine):

"...The only help you'll get from the Post Office in controlling junk mail is for explicit stuff. Fill out USPS forms 1500 if you wish this type of mail to stop. You define what you find to be explicit -- if that's an automobile parts catalog the post office won't disagree with you."

Get to the page by clicking here.

Don't forget to register your home phones and cell phones with the National Do Not Call Registry at donotcall.gov. The registration will last for 5 years, so you will need to update. You can also verify if your number is registered or not by clicking on the "Verify A Registration" bar. Please remember that charitable organizations, surveys, companies you do business with and political callers will still be able to call you even if you are registered, but you can still ask them to remove you from their calling lists.

There you have it! Get on the horn or on the web and get rid of that mountain of junk mail! Consider this my early Christmas gift to you all.

It's like that thing you can do to stop telemarketers--very helpful.
