Nifty Thrifty Thursday: Find Money

Our family loves to watch game shows and quiz shows. That is when my competitive nature kicks in- especially when I watch Jeopardy. I admit that I have made Matthew mad on more than one occasion as I blurt the answer out before Alex Trebek can even finish reading the question.

I keep thinking how nice it would be to go on a game show and win a bunch of moolah to pay off our mortgage or vehicle. Wouldn't we all love to find just a little bit of extra cash somewhere to take the pressure off? I have a little list of ideas for you today that may give you some ideas or spark some other ideas of places to make or find money. If you can think of any others, leave a comment.

Places to look:
Coat and jacket pockets
The furniture
Anyplace you may have hidden money in the past
Old lock boxes
Old piggy banks
ON THE GROUND OUTSIDE
Use your metal detector in the local park or on the beach
In your vehicle (between the seats, too)
In old backpacks, diaper bags and purses

While you're going through those things, consider selling some of them. Some good places:
Local resale shops
Craigslist
eBay
Hold a garage sale
Zwaggle
Local tag sales
Flea Markets
Cash4Gold
BookScouter.com

Other ideas:
Grow your own food- seeds and trees cost a fraction of the harvest you'll reap. Even a small container garden can save you money weekly.

Sell food you've grown- plant more than you need and sell the extras.

Make money from a hobby- can you sew, bake, paint, draw or write calligraphy? Make a little money from the things you love to do! I suggest reading Earn Money from Your Hobbies by Erin Hufstetler of Frugal Living first.

BLOG! Check out Earning 1099's Online by Stephanie of StopTheRide.net for some great tips!

Clean- Pick up a few extra bucks each week by cleaning for someone.

Use coupons!!!

Check out my list of ways to earn extra holiday money. No holiday needed!!!

Now that you have the money, put it in a savings account or a CD. The money you save isn't actually saved if you just spend it on something else. Set up direct deposit for your paychecks and have a set amount put into your savings account each pay. If you never see it, you'll never miss it.

That's all for this week's edition of Nifty Thrifty Thursday. Now get out there and save some money!
